When hosting high-level summits, cutting costs on sound system rentals is never a wise move. Audio quality directly shapes the sensory experience of VIP guests and is central to their overall impression of the event.
Event venues feature vastly different acoustic environments and ceiling heights. Glass exhibition halls plagued by severe reverberation require carefully engineered acoustic design and custom audio rental packages. For heritage-protected buildings, sound pressure levels must be kept in check to maintain a balanced volume.
We have extensive hands-on experience with audio rentals in Singapore and have completed site surveys at numerous venues. Below, we walk through how to select professional sound rental equipment for summits and gala dinners, using representative Singapore venues as examples.

I. Audio Selection Strategies for Different Singapore Venues
1. Large Pillarless Ballrooms / Convention Centres
Representative Venues: Marina Bay Sands (MBS) Grand Ballroom, Capella Singapore Grand Ballroom, Singapore EXPO
Ideal Event Types:
- Marina Bay Sands Grand Ballroom: Large-scale summits for up to one thousand attendees, multinational year-end gala dinners
- Capella Singapore Grand Ballroom: Executive summits, private family office / VC forums, luxury VIP dinners
- Singapore EXPO: Mass corporate annual conventions, main conference forums for trade shows, industry galas and carnivals
Acoustic Challenges: These expansive spaces have ceiling heights of 6–9 metres or higher. Surfaces often combine marble, glass and carpeting, which readily create reverberation. Poorly designed audio systems may result in excessive volume for front-row guests while those seated at the back struggle to hear clearly.
Audio Rental Strategy:
Main PA Speakers: Deploy compact line array systems such as d&b audiotechnik (T‑Series / Y‑Series), Meyer Sound or L‑Acoustics (A15 / Kara). These deliver vertically directional sound projection to minimise sound reflection off the ceiling.
Delay Speakers: For long, narrow ballrooms, centre delay speakers should be installed towards the rear, with a digital signal processor (DSP) to align audio timing.

2. High‑ceiling Heritage Buildings & Colonial‑style Function Halls
Representative Venues: Raffles Hotel Ballroom, The Fullerton Hotel (Clifford Pier), Chijmes Hall. These sites carry rich historical heritage and classical European aesthetics and are subject to strict heritage preservation controls.
Ideal Event Types:
- Raffles Hotel Ballroom: Luxury brand launches, premium client appreciation dinners, small-scale summits
- The Fullerton Hotel (Clifford Pier): Upscale wedding receptions, C-suite corporate dinners, fashion & arts award ceremonies
- Chijmes Hall: High-end fashion runway shows, cultural summits, cocktail receptions and boutique dinners
Acoustic Challenges: These century-old buildings retain extensive teak timber, stained glass and hard tiled surfaces, which contribute to long reverberation times.
Audio Selection Strategy:
Column Speakers: Directionally controlled column loudspeakers are recommended (Fohhn, Bose or d&b column systems). They shape sound projection angles to avoid glass surfaces and reduce acoustic reflections.
Discreet Speaker Aesthetics: For heritage venues, white or silver-grey speaker finishes complement the site’s aesthetic. Cabling should be fully concealed wherever possible to preserve the venue’s visual integrity.
3. Glass Domes & Rooftop Terraces
Representative Venues: Flower Dome (Gardens by the Bay), 1-Altitude Coast, Andaz Alley on 3. These spaces offer panoramic views of natural landscapes or the city skyline, yet acoustic performance is heavily affected by natural light and weather conditions.
Ideal Event Types:
- Gardens by the Bay – Flower Dome: Green tech / ESG and sustainability summits, botanical-themed brand dinners, immersive arts galas
- 1-Altitude Coast (Sentosa): Secluded island-style exclusive events, brand summer launches, networking cocktail dinners
- Andaz Alley on 3: Fashion-forward parties, cutting-edge design forums, business networking receptions
Acoustic Challenges: Fully glazed or semi-open semi-enclosed structures tend to disperse low-frequency sound. Audio is also highly vulnerable to wind and ambient background noise.
Audio Rental Strategy:
High-power point-source loudspeakers paired with subwoofers are required. In open-air settings, this combination delivers sufficient body and sound penetration to overcome wind noise. For semi-outdoor venues, speakers with splash-proof ratings are strongly preferred.
| Event Type | Equipment Category | Recommended Gear & Models | Key Functions & Considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Summits / High-Level Forums | Microphone System | Top table: Shure MX412/S, Sennheiser (with shock mounts); Guest speakers: DPA 4066/6060 headworn mics, Shure Axient Digital series | Suppress table-borne rumble; Dual-band redundancy prevents dropouts, suited for the complex RF environment in Singapore’s CBD |
| Interpretation System | Infrared simultaneous interpretation system plus multi-language delegate receivers | Seamless language switching for English, Mandarin, Japanese, French and more | |
| Audio Processing | Yamaha QL5 / CL5 or DiGiCo S21 + Dan Dugan automatic mixer | Reduces background noise and phase interference when multiple microphones remain open | |
| Premium Award Galas / Gala Nights | Main PA & Subwoofers | Main loudspeakers plus a minimum of 1–2 x 18-inch subwoofers | Delivers visceral low-end impact to accompany live bands, award fanfares and vocal performances |
| Stage Monitoring | High-quality coaxial stage monitors or wireless in-ear monitors (IEMs) | Enable hosts and performers on stage to hear their mix accurately | |
| Background Audio Distribution | Distributed fill speakers at multiple zones | Cover reception areas and bar lounges, keeping background music at a level that does not disrupt guest conversations |
